State of the State (and Maylands)

CommSec

Curious? Me too. Its been a while since i commented on the state of affairs local, but its relevant now with the annual CommSec State of the States data found HERE

Its a little daunting to see WA sitting at the bottom of many of the lists on several factors but how else do you understand how our state is fairing amongst the rest of the nation? Mark McGowan says these figures are a little skewed due to the over-performance of the state during the boom times... others talk about the see-saw effect - when the east coast is down, the west coast is high and vice versa..... if you read the media, the east coast is on the way down......

What im more interested in are the signals on your local high street, what do you see? Go for a walk and talk to your local businesses and see whats happening? Here in Maylands there are some mixed sentiments, we've lost some Retail businesses due to several factors however signs are promising so expect to see the openiong of a few additional hospitality venues in 2019 including the Lyric Lane Live Music Venue, Little Shop of Plenty Late Night Licence, The Seasonal Brewing Company and the Old Post Office Wine Bar. These will add to the current successful licensed venues from Swallow Bar and Henry on Eighth. A positive direction for Maylands to inject more night life into the area to activate a place which runs more than 9-5. You should be excited if you are local.

As for the state of our state...... im excited for our suburb and would encourage everyone to question the east coast generated media reports and focus on whats local - with strong local micro-economies they often out perform the state of the state on many factors. Shop local, eat local, drink local. Its your village.
